J. Timothy Keane

Professional Experience

J. Timothy (Tim) Keane has over 30 years of experience working as an intellectual property attorney, with an emphasis on patent application preparation and prosecution, patent and trademark appellate work, due-diligence assessments, licensing and opinions.

Prior to joining Harness Dickey, Mr. Keane held attorney and IP management positions at General Electric, Syntex Labs and PPG, and spent 22 years with the Monsanto-Searle-Pharmacia-Pfizer lineage of companies. His patent prosecution experience is in the mechanical, electro-mechanical, chemical, bio-chemical, pharmaceutical and bio-pharmaceutical fields, including development and issuance of over 500 U.S. patents in polymers, catalysts, super-conducting materials, electrostatic spray devices, dental instruments, ethical drugs and medical-treatment inventions.

Mr. Keane has presented more than two dozen successful appellate briefs and oral arguments before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, including a trademark registration-cancellation appeal (Ilco v. Ideal Security,188 USPQ 485) and the often-cited case of In re Grabiak (226 USPQ 870) as to prima facie obviousness of oxygen-sulphur interchange in organic molecules.

Mr. Keane’s licensing activities include major pharmaceutical transactions and acquisitions involving several multi-billion dollar drug products.
