Kiyoshi Kozu

Professional Experience

In Mr. Kozu’s role as Japanese Intellectual Property Liaison Attorney, he acts as an ambassador between the firm and its Japanese clients. Mr. Kozu has been working in the intellectual property field for over 20 years in both Japan and the United States. Mr. Kozu also applies his skills and experience in licensing and litigations, as well as in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications.

Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Kozu worked for Seiko Epson Corporation in Japan.  Mr. Kozu has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in technologies related to watches, semiconductor devices and processes, liquid crystal display devices, magnetic materials and motors, printers, internet business methods and software before the Japanese Patent Office, the USPTO, and other international Patent Offices.  He was an attorney within the Licensing Department at Seiko Epson and was also instrumental in the successful patent infringement litigation regarding ink cartridges for Epson inkjet printers before the International Trade Commission (ITC) and U.S. District Court. Mr. Kozu has performed patent licensing negotiations relating to various products in Japan, Korea and the United States, and patent litigations relating to projectors and semiconductor devices in Japan and the United States. He also drafted US/Worldwide settlement agreements for licensing cases.
