By Tyson B. Benson, Associate
Detroit patent attorney Tyson Benson will participate in an upcoming webinar presentation titled “The Evolving State of Sovereign Immunity Before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.” The webinar will address concerns held by university tech transfer offices directed to the use of tribal sovereign immunity rights to shield patents from Inter Partes Review and post-grant proceedings held before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
This webinar will cover recent decisions handed down by the PTAB, steps technology managers should take — outside of placing their full faith in sovereign immunity claims — to protect their patent portfolios, and other important considerations for universities and tech transfer managers.
Benson is a licensed patent attorney in the Metro Detroit office of Harness Dickey. As a patent attorney who began his career as a Computer Engineer, he understands the importance of innovation and works with clients in numerous industries to secure their valuable intellectual property rights. In addition to his expertise in patent prosecution and Bayh-Dole compliance, he is also regularly involved in securing trademark protection, negotiating profitable licensing agreements, providing litigation support and conducting freedom to operate analyses.
The webinar will take place Thursday, May 3, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Eastern Time.
