Tyson Benson to Lead Webinar on Revised PTAB Standard Operating Procedures

By Tyson B. Benson, Associate

Metro Detroit patent attorney Tyson Benson will participate in an upcoming webinar presentation titled “Deciphering the PTAB’s Standard Operating Procedure Changes: A Game Changer for Post-Grant Proceedings.” The webinar will address the changes made in late September to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s Standard Operating Procedures.

The recent revisions affect the paneling of matters before the PTAB and precedential and informative decisions. Many expect that the changes will level the playing field for patent owners by making Patent Examiners and the PTAB follow the same set of rules, which has an issue in the past. The USPTO itself claims that the revisions “focus on increasing transparency, predictability, and reliability across the USPTO.”

For tech transfer offices and patent attorneys to take full advantage of these “game-changing” revisions, though, they should fully understand the impact that the changes will have on PTAB proceedings.

This webinar will cover many helpful tips to address these revisions, including:

  • Steps technology managers should take for designating panels with more than three judges.
  • Understanding the Precedential Opinion Panel.
  • The potential effects on licensing agreements and patent valuations.
  • Preparing patent claims.
  • Preparing for PTAB proceedings.
  • And more
