Don Daley and Derek Richmond of the firm’s Reston, VA, office will travel to Brussels this summer to present at the IIPLA 3rd Global IP Summit taking place June 19 and 20. Daley will present “Dealing with Patents of Others? Strengthen your Defense and Let your Offense help your Defense!” on the morning of June 19. The presentation will focus on both the renewed importance of legal opinions in the U.S. and the importance of strengthening your client’s portfolio to capture the products of those alleging your client of infringement of their patents. The second portion will serve as a follow up on Daley’s presentation last year during the IIPLA Summit in London entitled “Valuable Claims – The Union of Claim Drafting and Portfolio Management.”
The following morning, Richmond will present a discussion titled “A Day in the Life…,” which summarizes a discussion between U.S. Patent Office Examiners and in-house patent practitioners, and what each side believes might help the other be more successful. This discussion was previously moderated by Richmond and included several discussion topics, including effective ways to reduce costs in the patent application process, how to shorten application pendency, and how to strengthen issued claims.
