Michael advises clients and business leaders who are engaged in developing strategic patent portfolios and navigating around their competitors. He prepares and prosecutes domestic, international and PCT patent applications in the electrical and mechanical arts, with extensive experience in industries such as consumer electronics, computer and internet science, medical devices, telecommunications, image sensing, battery management, and AgriFood tech, among others.
Michael’s outgoing personality, straight-forward communication style and personal dedication to an unwavering work ethic are manifest in the high-quality and on-point work product he delivers — even on short notice. Michael has emerged as a “go-to” lawyer at Harness Dickey for his expertise on Subject Matter Eligibility, having followed, lectured on and attended the Oral Arguments in the influential Alice v. CLS Bank Supreme Court decision.
- Key medical device technologies include: walking assistance robots, including battery technology and controllers; surgical robots; and medical imaging devices (CT, MRI and PET).
- Key technologies in the electronic and computer science fields include: data storage structures, semiconductor devices, image sensors (CCD and CMOS), integrated circuits, laser and ink jet printing devices, LCD technology, Artificial Intelligence, and cloud computing technology.
- Key telecommunications technologies include: Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), code-division multiple access (CDMA), Long-Term Evolution (LTE), Bluetooth Low Energy (BTLE), and Packet Loss Concealment (PLC) technologies. As well as other wireless communication technologies including Radio Frequency ID (RFID) and Near-Field Communication (NFC) technologies.
- In addition to serving domestic clients, Michael prepares and prosecutes patent applications directed to diverse technology areas for large Asian and European companies, including global leaders in consumer electronics, telecommunications, image sensing, and medical devices.
Michael holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, graduating with the #1 rank in his class and a perfect 4.00 GPA. He is able to apply his advanced technological skills and experience to efficiently and expeditiously obtain broad patent protection for his clients.
Michael also has industry experience, and worked as an Engineer at Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a global independent product safety certification organization established in 1894. UL develops product safety standards and test procedures for products, materials, components, assemblies, tools and equipment. While there, Michael focused primarily on conformity assessments of industrial control equipment.
When he is not in the office, Michael enjoys weight lifting, running and yoga. He also frequently practices meditation to ground himself, focus on personal goals and set a big picture plan for his clients.
